Year 5

Welcome to our Year 5 page.  In Year 5 we have three teachers Alex Hawkins, Tom Hughes and Ella Nisbet and we are supported by Claire Baker.

Please visit our pages regularly to see any letters or homework we send home.  You will find them all below.

Everything you need to keep up to date with in year 5: spellings, homework and letters.

Bike Training

We are hoping to train all the Y5s to ride their bikes safely on the road this year.  Lifecycle UK send trainers to teach the children Bikeability skills.

There will be 12 children from each Y5 class doing the training on Fridays this term starting in Term 1 on the 20th September.  If your child's letters have been misplaced, you will find them all here.

In school we talk a lot about WAGOLLs (What A Good One Looks Like).  They are good examples of the work the children are about to undertake to give them an idea of what level of quality they are expected to achieve in this particular activity.

As an example, I have left this Macbeth animation from last year on our year page.  It contains lots of high quality elements that we would like to see in this year's animations and we will talk about it in our lessons before asking the children to create their own.

Our PE will continue to be taken by specialist PE teachers this year who will require your children to bring and wear suitable clothing. This consists of shorts and T-shirt and trainers or daps for outside work. These should be brought to school in a labelled PE bag and kept in school. PE will be on Thursday morning for 5T, Thursday afternoon for 5E and Friday afternoon for 5A.

Help in school

If you would like to come into school to help, on either a regular basis or on a one off occasion we would love to see you, especially if you have any expertise in one of our topic areas. We always appreciate children bringing in artefacts from home to enhance our topics and bring the subject to life. As always we will take very good care of them.

Book bags are very useful for transporting homework, letters and reading books. We have asked the children if they could make sure they have something to carry these things in daily.  The children will have the opportunity to change their library books during the class library sessions in the week. Homework and spellings will be given out on Friday and collected in on Thursday.  We will complete a weekly spelling quiz on Friday. This term we will also be focusing on securing our knowledge of the times tables. We would be grateful for your support when your child has homework, spellings and times tables.
