Welcome to Year 1
We hope that you are all well and had a great half term.
Home learning in term 6 is slightly different to term 5. We will continue to have daily lessons for phonics, maths and English. However, for week 1 we have uploaded videos, lesson plans and activities. As we are now in school teaching we will be providing 1 or 2 videos for maths and English and daily written lessons for weeks 2 - 6.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. Please find our email addresses below.

We would encourage year 1 children to aim for daily lessons of;
- A foundation lesson or a creative activity including cooking and gardening
Please note that you will find videos on this website or alternatively on the agps home learning 2020 YouTube channel.
Also, through the week;
- Reading ( 3 -5 x weekly for 10 minutes)
- Handwriting (3 x weekly for 10 minutes)
- Spellings (2 - 3 x weekly)
Remember to keep active! There are some great PE videos to dance to which can be found on this website.
Parents and carers you are doing a great job managing to keep children learning whilst at home. Just to say it’s important that you do what you feel you can and don’t feel pressured to do everything that is here.
We look forward to working with you and providing your children with interesting and engaging learning.
Year 1 team
Back in January we launched the ‘Ablaze Water Poetry Competition’. Lots of children from across the school entered their poem creations on the theme of water, so a huge ‘well done’ if you were motivated and got involved.
An amazing 566 poems were submitted to Ablaze from various schools around Bristol! The judges had a very tough job selecting which ones to publish, but after a lot of discussion, they finally picked 90.
Ashton Gate Primary School is proud and delighted to announce that 8 poems were selected (6 from KS2 and 2 from Early Years and KS1). All the staff at Ashton Gate are very proud of our talented poets and can’t wait to receive the book with the published poems! Many congratulations to our ‘soon to be published’ poets. You can have a read of their fantastic poems below.
