Music

Music is a subject that develops children’s understanding of sounds, rhythms, and melodies. Lessons include listening, singing, playing instruments, composing, and responding to music. The subject supports creativity, confidence, and collaboration, helping children express themselves and enjoy learning.

At Ashton Gate, we believe music should inspire creativity, expression, and joy. Our music curriculum gives every child the opportunity to perform, create, and communicate through sound — building confidence, teamwork, and self-esteem along the way.

Children explore music through singing, composing, and performing, developing their skills as musicians while expressing their individuality. We celebrate a wide range of musical styles and traditions, helping pupils appreciate music from different cultures and share their own tastes.

All children are encouraged to take part in performances, whole-school events, and community activities, fostering a real sense of belonging and pride.
