In October, Bristol City Football Club contacted us about a Y5/6 poetry competition they had organised for all schools in Bristol on the theme of ambition. We invited everyone to submit a poem and were delighted with the number and variety of entries we received.
We sent these compositions to Bristol City where they were judged by a panel, which included two local poets, Beth Calverley and Helen Sheppard, Joe Simms [actor and Bristol City fan] and the entire Bristol City playing squad, including manager Nigel Pearson!
In December, we received a very exciting email telling us that Alfie in Y6 had been successful and was the overall winner! He is going to be invited to a Bristol City match and have his award presented at half-time, as well as having his poem printed in the match-day programme! The whole school would like to congratulate Alfie in this amazing achievement and hope you take the time to read his thought-provoking, inspiring poem below.
