Ablaze Poetry Writing Competition 2021

Published Poets in Ashton Gate!

UPDATE.....6th December 2022, our poets finally got to attend the Ablaze Award Ceremony. In front of an audience, they read their wonderful poems and were presented with their goodie bags and certificates by the Bristol Mayor. We were all very proud of how well they represented Ashton Gate and enjoyed hearing their fabulous composition once again. Keep your eyes peeled for a new Ablaze competition being launched in January 2023!

Way back in the January 2021 Lockdown, we invited children from all year groups to take part in the annual ‘Ablaze Poetry Competition’. The challenge was to write a poem on the theme of happiness. Despite being in lockdown, many of our Ashton Gaters took part and we received an amazing amount of entries, which brightened up the winter months and made us feel very happy!

Having sent them all off, we waited….and waited…..and waited; judging was delayed because of covid! At the end of November, we received a long awaited email. We are delighted to share the brilliant news with you that 21 of our Ashton Gaters, from Y1 to Y6, were selected to have their poems published in a book!

Following on from this amazing news, in January, we had another exciting announcement! A team of independent judges read all the shortlisted poems from across the city and we are thrilled to share the news of the following children who won their age categories. Click on their poems below and enjoy!
