Ashton Site

Disabled access to the school is available through the main school entrance and on the ground floor at the front of the building. There is an accessible toilet in the Key Stage 1 building. It must be noted, however, that in the Reception classes building, the library is only accessible by stairs.  

Upton Site 

The entire building  is fully accessible with a lift to the first and second floor. There is an accessible toilet on every floor.

Visitors to either site who have accessibility needs are asked to contact the school in advance to ensure that we are able to fully accommodate their needs.

Please contact the school for access arrangements regarding parking.

The intercom at the main entrance gate is positioned too high off the ground floor level.

Intercom lowered.

There is a step up to the Music Room.

Ramp was installed. 

Parents evenings/meetings are undertaken in each of the individual classrooms however there needs to be a set procedure to accommodate those unable to negotiate steps. This is more applicable for new children attending the school where the parents are not yet well known.

The accessible WC within the school needs to have a complete refurbishment.

Accessible WCs does not have a cord alarm.

There is a lack of visual alarms to inform people with hearing impairments in the event of the fire alarm being activated. The existing units are too far and few.

Many of the classrooms and areas do not have level egress to safely evacuate wheelchair users from the school such as the classrooms off the main hall.

Any pupils/staff with accessibility needs will have a personal plan which will include safe evacuation.

A portable induction loop should be considered for visitors.

The main hall has a stage that people with mobility disabilities may find difficult to negotiate. This results in potential discrimination taking place.

A thorough risk assessment will take place when pupils are using the stage, including how the children with mobility disabilities will access and use the stage safely 

Within the side playground area there are numerous tripping hazards present such as where the ground raises (tree roots) or where the ground dips.

The new Reception playground has addressed many of the issues with tree roots and dips in the ground

The library is now on the first floor so is inaccessible for staff/pupils with mobility issues.

Each class will have a mini library
