Ablaze Poetry Writing Competition 2023

In January this year, we invited children from all year groups to take part in the annual ‘Ablaze Poetry Competition’. The challenge was to write a poem on the theme of future. Many of our Ashton Gaters took part and interpreted the theme in lots of original and inspiring ways. This competition was open to all children across Bristol and North Somerset and we would like to say a huge ‘well done’ to everyone who was motivated and enthused to take part; we’re very proud of you all.

The results are now in and we’re thrilled to share the amazing news that an incredible 34 of our Ashton Gaters, from Y1 to Y6, were selected to have their poems published in a book!

In addition, a team of independent judges read all the shortlisted poems selected for publishing and we would like to announce the following results:

‘What’s the future’ by Rory, Year 1 - Category 1 Winner

‘I'll be me’ by Cece  Year 1 - Category 1 Runner Up

‘My Future’ by Isla, Year 4 - Category 2 Winner

‘My Olympic Future’ by Ivy, Year 5 - Category 3 Runner Up

‘A Lego Future’ by Atlas, Year 4 - Overall Winner

Pictures of the prize giving ceremony will follow, but in the meantime, a huge congratulations to all our talented poets!
