Ablaze Poetry Writing Competition 2024

In January this year, we invited children from all year groups to take part in the annual ‘Ablaze Poetry Competition’. The challenge was to write a poem on the theme of peace. Many of our Ashton Gaters took part and interpreted the theme in lots of original and inspiring ways. This competition was open to all children across Bristol and North Somerset and we would like to say a huge ‘well done’ to everyone who was motivated and enthused to take part; we’re very proud of you all.

The results are now in and we’re thrilled to share the amazing news that an incredible 29 of our Ashton Gaters, from Y1 to Y6, were selected to have their poems published in an online book, which can be here: Ablaze-Poetry-Book-2024.pdf

In addition, a team of independent judges read all the shortlisted poems selected for publishing and we would like to announce the following results:

‘Peace’ by Roxanne, Year 1 - Highly commended

‘Peace’ by Chloe  Year 4 - Younger age group winner

‘What if......’ by Ivy, Year 6 - Older age group winner

We were able to present the winners with certificates and books in our final whole-school assembly of the term as well as extended huge congratulations to all our Ashton Gate poets! We are proud of you all, so do keep composing!
