Dear Parents and Carers,
We had a great first term, all the children have settled into Year 1 brilliantly. It's going to be a fun filled, busy second term, which we are all looking forward to. In Science we will continue to learn about animals and humans. We will be finding out about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores as well as classifying animals into mammals, reptiles, amphibians etc. We will be observing the weather, continuing to find out about different seasons and going on an Autumn trip to the local park. In Art we will be making Christmas cards and finding out that practice makes progress through drawing an animal several times. In Geography we will be finding out even more about our school and in DT we are going to make moving pictures with a Christmas theme! In computing we are going to learn about staying safe whilst online and in PSHE we are going to think carefully about what we can do when things don't go right as well as having an anti-bullying week. In R.E. we are going to continue to discover and discuss why some places are special to us and learn about the Nativity.
Please read with your child at least three times a week. There are no set days for your child to change their reading book. Your child is encouraged to change their own book once they have finished reading it. Reading boxes are accessible in the classroom for your child to change their book. The best time to change reading books is first thing in the morning, so a quick reminder at the classroom door works really well. Please remember to write in the reading record to let us know how they have been getting on with reading at home. We would love to have parents come in to help with reading. If you would like to come in and help please see your child’s class teacher to arrange a suitable time.
